Most fixed jobs require you a downpayment or sorts to start the project.. it may backfire on you, since any few ‘fixes’ will require additional negotiation and haggling.
The first step of a project would be to agree on a specifications document, signed by both parties. A good contractor will suggest you do that. This will save both of you a lot of headaches, and you would know what to expect.
As for additional features, they could be part of a next version or a support contract.
